I originally wrote this post on the Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation back in 2018 after discovering it a few years before that. It is a really great foundation and I’ve loved having it in my kit. It has been one of my favourite organic make up products and I’ve recommended it a lot over the years. The colour range has been steadily growing and now in 2023 there are now 18 shades.
The Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation was the first product in the refill system that started 10 years ago. When it first came out I bought one for myself to try – I initially just bought the refill which was a lot more economical for me at the time and a great way to try it (although not such a great idea if you want to take it out with you in your make-up bag!) I remember liking it a lot – the colour was great for me and the texture worked too.
The refill idea is brilliant, once you have made that initial investment of the compact, the price then becomes a lot kinder on your wallet. The original Iconic Edition of the case is made from an alloy of zinc, aluminium, magnesium and copper. They looks and feel quite luxurious and special which was the aim, these empty cases are £22 and the refills are £39.
In 2020 the Red Edition was released; these cases are made from recyclable paper – they are 100% recyclable, compostable, and refillable. They are also cheaper and lighter than the metal ones too, the foundation case is £8.50.
For us make-up artists the refill idea is perfect, we can make our own custom palettes which is something that always makes us happy! Of course, even if the foundation is for your own personal use, you could make your own palette.
I invested in some for my kit and absolutely loved using them – currently in need of a restock..
How to apply the Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation
A few people have said the Kjaer Weis Cream Foundation is a little dry on its own and hasn’t worked for their skin types. I’ve found that prepping skin very well beforehand can help with application, an oil for example can make the foundation glide onto skin. I like that it is a slightly drier texture as it gives it a bit more scope on how to use it. I always tend to mix it in with something else to make it a bit more fluid and then use it ‘neat’ where I want fuller coverage. Vapour Organic Beauty’s Soft Focus Instant Skin Perfector was always a favourite mixer, but sadly Vapour closed as a company at the end of 2022. Something like BYBI’s Strawberry oil would be wonderful to mix in or Kjaer Weis’s own primer to make it more luminous. Any lightweight moisturiser would work really well too.
I like to apply with a brush but fingers will work too. If using it ‘neat’ then warm between your fingers or back of your hand before applying to the face.
If you don’t like the idea of mixing Kjaer Weis have since launched their Liquid Foundations which are also firm favourites in the kit.
The colour range is also great and getting wider… here are some old swatches I did courtesy of Content Beauty…. these were back in 2018 – there are now 8 more.
and then in a slightly bluer light…
2018 new additions to the colour range…
They are one of the few ranges to have some darker colours – I LOVE this image from the Kjaer Weis website –
