2023 – there are lots more colours – on my list to update!!
One of my new year plans for the blog is to do more reviews. I’ve got so many products in my kit and personally, that I really should be sharing more thoughts and swatches of what I have.. I get asked a lot about concealers and foundations – these base products really are as the name says, the basis of our make-up. If our skin feels and looks good then it can make all the difference to how we feel in ourselves.
I’m definitely not heavy handed when it comes to applying foundation, I use it to even the skin tone out and then I’ll do a lot of work with concealers. A good concealer is a staple in my beauty kit. When choosing one think about what you are trying to cover – under the eyes will require something creamy, while a stubborn spot needs something drier in consistency to give it hold and longevity.
Choosing a concealer with lots of lovely skin friendly ingredients means that you are helping the skin to heal and repair too. I was planning to do a big green concealer 101 but it’s already been sitting in the draft box for too long, so I’m going to do it in smaller sections.. starting with Hynt Beauty’s DUET Perfecting Concealer..
This Hynt Beauty concealer comes in 7 shades – sorry I’ve only got 6 so the swatch is missing the Medium Tan..
In my words.. fair is very pink, light has more of a yellow undertone but still slightly pink, medium is yellow, tan has a slight orangey feel but not too pink, dark has more of a pinker undertone and deep is more golden.
In Hynt’s words.. Fair – fair skin with pink undertone, Light – light skin with yellow/beige undertone, Medium – medium skin with warm undertone, Medium Tan – olive skintone with cool beige undertone, Tan – olive/tanned skin with warm undertone, Dark – dark skin with a cool undertone, Deep – dark skin with a warm undertone.
I’ve been using this concealer on myself and I’m really liking it. I’m a mixture of light and medium for blemishes and redness; medium on its own works really well under my eyes to help cancel out the darkness under there!! (some tips here for covering dark circles if you fancy a read)
The medium is a good mixing colour to yellow other products up a bit. The deep tone is a good one for my kit as well.
The texture is nice and creamy – I’ve been applying with my finger and it goes onto skin really well and blends in beautifully. I use my finger in a dabbing motion rather than rubbing, which allows the product to sit well on the skin (as opposed to just rubbing it around). There is no greasiness or stickiness, the finish is a healthy dew rather than completely matt, but definitely not shiny. This texture allows you to build the coverage where you need it. If I had a stubborn spot then I would use a small brush and build my layers with a very light dusting of powder in between to give the product something to hold onto. I do a couple of fine layers under my eyes as well and powder to set in place – if I don’t it will crease.
When I posted a picture of mine the other day on Instagram stories, friend and fellow make-up artist Linda Öhrström said she was a big fan of them too. I asked her why knowing I was writing this post and this is what she said..
“I love that the Hynt Beauty concealer is so concentrated – as a make-up artist you can’t have too much pigment! They go really well with my rms foundations. The creamy texture gives an excellent cover without going cakey. Great shades too! I haven’t had a chance to try out the darker shades yet, but super excited to find darker options. A little goes a long way and packaging is really cute too.”
I know these concealers are popular with lots of other green make-up artists and green bloggers too.
