Calm Face Calm Mind Workshop With Helen Bashford & Lou Dartford
Interested in learning how to calm yourself using your own face, ear, and eyes?
The muscles of the face hold tension like any other muscle; often directly reflecting the emotions we supress. Emotions will often show up in the face as frowning, squinting, clenched teeth, rigid jaw. Detachment and dissociation may show on the face as a lack of expression. The eyes and ears are intrinsically linked to the nervous system and are also impacted by stress and emotion. It is a two way street, with the brain reading facial expression to determine how we are. Tense, inexpressive, gripped faces, will tell the brain we are under threat.
In addition continual tense muscles can restrict the vessels flowing through and around them, thus limiting blood flow bringing vital oxygen and nutrients to the head, scalp, and skin. The removal of waste products via the lymphatic system is also compromised.
The face is a rich map of cranial nerves and acupressure points, which can be massaged and manipulated to release tension and patterns of holding in the face and consequently the whole body-mind system. Massaging and releasing tense muscles helps boost circulation, aid detoxification, and release stagnant energy. Add in calming breathwork and mindfulness and you have a powerful method of bringing about feelings of calm and ease.
In this 2 hour workshop Helen Bashford and I will be teaching facial massage, along with breath work and nervous system education. Incorporating some of these techniques into our daily routines can make a huge difference to soften the muscles and quiet the mind. Improved flow will also help brighten and revitalise the complexion.
The workshop will be held at Helen's studio in Bromley, Kent.
Helen is my yoga teacher and I absolutely love her classes, she is also a yoga therapist and her classes have an emphasis on mental health. I have learnt so much from her about the nervous system and how to balance it. Breath work for her is a key part of this - I have learnt some amazing techniques from her that I use regularly.
I'm so excited to do this workshop with her, I really hope you can join us x
