Hi I’m Lou,
Thanks so much for checking out my site! 🙂 I started my career in make-up well over 15 years ago training initially in special effects. On realising I preferred making people look quite nice (as opposed to decapitated), I changed my attentions to fashion, beauty and music. I grew up with an interest in natural health, so experimenting with natural beauty products in my professional kit was the next step. As I discovered their potential however, I also found a darker side to the conventional beauty industry. Surrounded by make-up every day, I started to question what I was using. From unsavoury ingredients to a careless environmental impact, I realised that these were key elements of many of the products I had in my kit.
A decade ago I made a conscious decision to try and make my kit as green, clean and ethical as it could be. It is still work in progress; from a professional point of view some products are proving harder to switch. However organic and natural beauty is getting so good now, it can definitely compete with ‘conventional’ beauty. That’s not to say everything in my kit needs to be organic and natural. It’s also about sustainability, production and packaging of products for example. If I can use brands with Fairtrade values too then brilliant. Animal rights are key as well, I’m not a vegan but I have lots of options in my kit and animal testing is a no no. I do believe in using up products though when switching; wasting products is not good. For me, creating a green beauty kit is about caring for the environment and everything in it. I want the products in my kit to do good as well as make people look good.
I still have things in there that might not tick all the boxes. I used to worry about having products in there that weren’t the cleanest in terms of ingredients and environmental factors, however it is also about supporting brands that are doing good in any aspect. I might have got a product in there that has some synthetic ingredients (eek! ;)) BUT they’re cruelty free, have vegan brushes and look fab on a shoot!! Transparency is key in a brand, but I need to be too.
I think as long as we’re all trying our best and aware about the products we are using, we’re getting there. Also remembering that our personal values may be different to someone else’s, and that is fine. We need to respect one another’s choices. Make-up is fun. We have enough stress in our lives, choosing a lipstick should be reducing it not adding to it. My kit is looking greener than it has ever been, but there’ll still be some neon pink in there for as long as people need it.
I have a huge interest in skin too. Great skincare is an essential base to any make-up. I’m qualified in Indian Head Massage, Natural Lift Facial Massage and facials and I continue to study. I enjoy bringing this practise into my make-up but also sharing advice on here too.
Alongside all of this, I have always enjoyed beauty writing. I have contributed features and quotes to magazines such as The Ecologist, InStyle, Recognise, Natural Health, Twenty6 and various other blogs. I have also been Beauty Editor for SIX and EggMag. This is a blog to fuse my writing and my make-up together. I get to try some amazing products and meet some really interesting people and I want to share this with you. I’ll tell you about new products and treatments I have tried, along with tips to recreate looks and any news along the way. This green beauty lark is a really exciting journey and I hope you enjoy it as much as me.

For PR and brands– I am always very keen to try new products so please get in touch if you have a great product you think I should try. I cannot guarantee that I will include it on the blog however. I’m really grateful that I do receive lots of products to try but I can’t always include everything. I try and give every product I try, a fair go, which means that it can take a while to get through products especially skincare; so please don’t expect reviews instantly!
That all said, thank you very much for your interest, it is such an exciting time for green beauty!
