Make-up update?

I really love giving beauty advice and offer consultations to those who would like to green up their beauty routine. I enjoy passing on knowledge and power so women can make informed decisions about what to put on their face and bodies. Within that consultation I also offer make-up lessons – giving advice on application and colours, tailored to the individual’s needs. I’ve been doing them via Zoom but last week I did my first face-to-face in ages which was really nice – so we’ve got options!

I find that many women feel they are stuck in a makeup rut – perhaps doing the same thing for the last 5 years or more. Not that there is anything wrong with doing the same thing, I must add – if it’s working for you and you’re happy then you don’t have to switch anything.

Our faces do change however – complexions and eye shapes for example will change over the years. So it can be an idea sometimes to just check in, and see if anything needs tweaking, and if you need a little make-up update.

Wearing make-up means different things to different people. I’m definitely about enhancing rather than masking, and using it to give confidence. I’ll encourage women to try new things for sure, it’s only makeup, it will wash off I say. However the wearer must feel comfortable in it so I’ll give different options; perhaps a red gloss to work up to a red lip.

Makeup is about having fun and experimenting, brightening up your day – goodness knows we all need a little cheering up.

Saying all this though, I am that woman who does the same makeup every single day – if I go out then I just ramp up my day look. Sure I’ll change up the mascara if I’m testing them for example but I’ll stick to the same colours – a smudge of brown and black liner – gold if I’m feeling a bit glitzy. It’s not that I don’t like wearing makeup, it’s usually a time issue; getting me and a certain little one out of the house takes precedence over doing a new make-up look. My everyday 5 minute look is easy, doesn’t need thinking about, and it works – mostly!!

As I said though, I’m often encouraging other women to have more fun with make-up, so I need to take a bit of my own advice I think. I’ve got a lot of make-up, of course I use it at work, but I should take a bit of time to experiment on myself. I could then write more make-up reviews for you 🙂 Not that I’m encouraging you to buy more stuff – or do I do during my consultations. Yes, I’ll make recommendations but I’ll also show you what to do with the products you already have. I’m sure there aren’t many of us who don’t have a few beauty products lying around that we just don’t know what to do with.

So I’m making a concerted effort to be a bit more playful with my make-up, and I’m encouraging you to do the same. I challenge you to look in your make-up bag/draw/box and use something different to what you usually use. Or use something in a different way – could a lipstick be used as a blusher for example?

Let me know how you get on!! 🙂
