Lavera foundations…

FEBRUARY 2019 UPDATE – Lavera have revamped their make-up range – the Tinted Moisturising Cream now comes in two formulations with more colours. The Nude Effect and Natural Liquid Foundation are being discontinued but there is a new addition called the Soft Liquid Foundation – for review click here 🙂

Lavera as a brand was born in Germany in 1987, but its founder, Thomas Haase, has knowledge and experience from much further back, so it’s safe to say they know a thing or two about natural beauty. The range is very broad offering both make-up and skincare, with products for the whole family too. They are available online but also found in many independent health shops and places like Wholefoods; this makes them very accessible, and great to actually go and try them first hand. They are also very reasonably priced which is so great; natural and organic beauty is usually considered expensive but Lavera are definitely more affordable.

They went off my radar for a while for no particular reason, but I started wearing one of their eyeshadow quads a little while ago and these last few weeks I’ve been trying their foundations…

They all carry the Natrue certification, they’re all vegan and they all cost between £10-£15.

Nude Effect Make-up Fluid

I really like this foundation, it is very lightweight and blends into skin very easily. It does dry quickly so apply gradually to the face blending as you go. I can’t see or feel it on my skin but it evens it out very naturally and gives it a nice glow. It doesn’t look like I am wearing anything but just makes my skin look better and healthy. It also wears very well – it is still there later in the day but still doesn’t look like make-up.

I would say to moisturise well beforehand and exfoliate to give a smoother finish. It is maybe not great for very dry skins. There is quite a strong fragrance but this is from essential oils and I got used to it quite quickly.

This comes in four colours. I’ve been using Ivory Light 01. I did these swatches but they have really surprised me, because they all turned a lot darker on me once applied. I must say I didn’t notice this on my face – I would be very interested to hear any one else’s experiences…

A little video here of me applying it on my Instagram if you fancy a look..

Natural Liquid Foundation

This definitely has more coverage and feels more like make-up. It sits in my pores a little bit so again I would say to exfoliate and moisturise well beforehand. It is light to medium coverage which you can build. It is heavier to what I am used to but it did settle in. It gives a nice natural finish, I felt I didn’t need a powder but maybe oilier types might down the T-zone. I’m not sure how it would sit on a drier skin – would definitely need good skin prep beforehand, perhaps an oil to give it a bit more slip. I tried application with a brush but I preferred fingers, I think the warmth of them helped the foundation sit better on my skin.

This one has a stronger fragrance which I could smell for a while after application; the fragrance is higher up the ingredients list which would explain this..

This formulation is meant to last 10 hours and I think it probably does – I’ve had a report of someone wearing it all night on the dance and it staying put!! 🙂

It comes in 6 shades, all quite pinky..

Mousse Make-Up

This was my least favourite but I think it is geared towards an oilier skin. The texture is lovely and smooth, but felt drying and showed up on my skin a lot. It is a matt finish so would be better for those very oily types trying to control excess shine – I think – again would love to hear anyone else’s experiences.. This comes in 3 shades..

Organic Tinted Moisturising Cream 3 in 1

This is very light coverage with just a little pigment, unfortunately it’s too dark for my complexion but the texture feels nice. Again there is the signature smell, which I’ve got used to, but some may find it too much.

Alcohol does come up very high on the Nude Effect, Natural Liquid Foundation and Tinted Moisturiser so perhaps explains why they dry so quickly on the skin? Also perhaps why they might not be so great for a dry skin too – I’m awaiting information on the function for the alcohol. I’m also trying to find out more about Dodecane which is the first ingredient in the Mousse Make-Up – any thoughts?

Have you tried any of these foundations? What do you think?

I’ve only recently discovered your blog. Thank you so much for including how scented it is in your review and giving a really in depth ingredients list. I have problems with strong fragrances due to a health issue which is one of the reasons I switched to green make up. It is so useful to have info on and I find a lot of reviewers don’t give much attention to it.

      Hi Anna,
Thanks so much for your comment and for the reading the blog 🙂
I’m really glad you found the review useful. Fragrance can be such an issue can’t it, it can be the best product in the world but if you don’t get on with the scent then it’s a no-go. I hope you’re finding lots of lovely green make-up that works for you!

I’m thinking of doing a newsletter.. maybe seasonal so won’t bombard you.. just news and some special offers? Please sign up if interested.. :)
