face masks to the rescue…

Planning to party hard?? December is notorious for late nights and over indulging and unfortunately the first place to show is our skin. BUT we can help matters by being clever with our skincare. A face mask can make a big difference in a short space of time. Here are a few I’ve been trying lately..

S5 Vitality Mask

I love the fact that this is so fast acting – 5 minutes is all it takes to work its magic. There is no tingling or redness so you can put make-up on straight away after using it, so perfect pre-party to boost and brighten skin. Also perfect post-party to disguise said party before work. This mask is brilliant for sensitive and stressed skins; marine enzymes are used instead of AHAs to gently exfoliate skin without irritation. Wild Alaskan Wakame helps to increase collagen synthesis, protect against free radical damage, stimulates cell energy and hyaluronic acid and also nourishes skin with Omegas 3, 6 and 9. Er, yes please! I use this mask in the mornings for a quick fix to brighten tired skin and you really can see a difference. My skin looks smoother and more radiant. This lives between my bathroom cabinet and the kit.

Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Refine and Polish Miracle Balm

This is a rich balm that smells quite medicinal thanks to the eucalyptus and rosemary in it, but in a good way. The balm is made up of Aurelia’s signature probiotic and peptide complexes along with fruit enzymes to deeply exfoliate skin. To use it as a mask, leave it on for 5 mins – again quick enough to squeeze into a busy schedule. This one you can feel on your skin, I felt it getting warm and a slight tingling. It is an oily balm but on contact with water it turns into a milk and rinses off easily. This one put colour in my cheeks, leaving it brightened and smoothed out. It’s perfect for lifting dull and lacklustre skin and the fact that you can use it 3-4 times a week makes it perfect for a week of parties..

The balm also contains rice bran granules making it a double whammy as you can use it as an instant manual scrub. Gentle exfoliation is key during the winter months to keep your complexion glowing.

The Organic Pharmacy Collagen Boost Mask

This has been a favourite of mine for a while. Packed full of skin boosting ingredients such as aloe, seaweed and St Johns Wort, along with powerful antioxidants and MSM to supercharge skin and help cellular regeneration. Horsetail, ginseng and propolis are also included for their anti-ageing properties. It is a gel like consistency that you apply after cleansing and exfoliation, it feels cool and calm on the skin. This one you don’t actually wash off, just let it do its thing for 5 minutes or so then apply your moisturiser as usual. My skin feels tighter and brighter after using this, it’s brilliant if you’re in a hurry and great night or day. I tend to use it in the morning to give my skin a boost for the day ahead. Ideal for the party season to brighten and lift before a big night.

Zk’in Brightening and Hydrating Masque

If you like chocolate and oranges then you’re going to like this mask as it smells just like them, if you don’t then it might put you off. Luckily I like both so the sweet cocoa aroma added to the experience. Organic cocoa is one of the main ingredients and is used to help smooth skin as well as improve circulation and temporarily brighten. The mask itself is cocoa coloured, so slightly messier than the rest (best done before a hair wash I would say). It’s also very important to exfoliate well before hand, as I found the colour could stick to any dry patches if you don’t. Perhaps one for when you’re taking your time to get ready, glass of vino in one hand… I felt it working on my skin, it does dry but it’s not uncomfortable. When I removed it my skin did look brighter, and I had a nice rosy glow.

Anyone else got any quick fixes for partied out skin?
