Sleep is for wimps – just get a good serum….

Well that’s what I’ve been telling myself…. One of the best things you can do for your skin is to sleep well every night. Easier said than done for many reasons for many people. So if you’re not getting enough regular shut eye, what is the next best thing? A good serum can help; it might not make you feel bright eyed and bushy tailed but it can certainly boost the glowing skin stakes. Serums are designed to be used as an extra step in your skincare regime, usually underneath your moisturiser. They are supercharged with special ingredients that can penetrate that bit further into your skin and really feed it. I’ve definitely not been getting enough sleep for the last 10 months at least (thank you beautiful baby), so I’ve had ample opportunity to road test a few.

Here are three of my current favourites –

Elemental Herbology – Cell Food Radiance and Vitality Serum

This one is sadly coming to an end in my bathroom cabinet and shall be sorely missed. I’ve been using it day and night and it has really perked my skin up (admittedly I’ve been using more than the recommended few drops though). I’ve even had comments about my glowing skin – perhaps people feeling sorry for the sleep deprived but I like to think otherwise… This serum is made from ingredients such as Kombuchka, known for its anti-ageing and restorative benefits, and green tea and co-enzyme Q10 for their antioxidant properties. It also contains a number of other patented ingredients to stimulate cell renewal and add radiance. It is designed for dull, under nourished skin and travellers so perfect for those lacking sleep, but I think any skin could benefit from it.

It is a very lightweight texture, not oily at all so it sinks into skin straight away leaving no residue. I’ve been using it around the orbital bone as well so my eye area gets the benefits too.

The Organic Pharmacy – Antioxidant Face Firming Serum

I’ve used this many times, usually in conjunction with the Antioxidant Face Gel but it is great in its own right. I’ve mentioned it here on the blog before too. It is an oilier texture – rose hip oil being the main ingredient, but it is not greasy. It smells lovely thanks to the clever combination of things like lemon, sweet orange and carrot, along with the rose hip oil. These also give it its golden colour, nothing but goodness in this bottle…. It is designed to be anti-ageing due to the high levels of antioxidants lifting, protecting, repairing and regenerating. It is good for all skin types.

Every time I go back to this one, I notice a change in my skin. It looks and feels smoother and brighter and usually only after a few days.

S5 Renew Serum

I first had a sample size of this serum a while back and the change I saw in a week was so good that I had to get the full size. Again this one is more of a fluid than an oil so is great for not waking up in the morning with a greasy fringe and great under make-up.

Another anti-ageing serum – its what we all want isn’t it?? Its power comes from Antarctic ingredients – microorganisms that are able to withstand extreme cold by producing proteins to strengthen their cellular walls. Used on the skin, they help to strengthen the cellular matrix – reducing wrinkles and increasing collagen – er, yes please. I would say I had finelines rather than wrinkles, but my skin definitely felt smoother after using this – I actually used quite a while back but it has remained one of my favourites since then. The only thing I will say is that it ran out to quickly – or maybe I need to address my serum application….
