Rose-Marie Swift comes to London!

As soon as I heard that Rose-Marie Swift was coming to London I was excited, she is a real inspiration to me for many reasons.  I love her make-up work, I love her make-up line and I love what she is doing to promote cleaner beauty.

I’m glad to say that her visit did not disappoint.  The event, hosted by Content Beauty and Wellbeing (thank you Imelda!) was held at 42Raw on Burlington Gardens, a very apt place to hear about a raw make-up line.

As we settled down with our green juices, Rose-Marie began to talk us through her products.  Coconut oil is the hero ingredient running through the line, she spoke about the numerous uses it has thanks to its anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral and antioxidant properties.  These come from the lauric acid found in unprocessed coconut oil, hence the oil used in the products is 100% raw and unrefined.  When asked what products she uses on herself, it was the coconut oil that did pretty much everything!  Coconut oil also has a shelf life of 5 years making it the perfect ingredient for a natural range.  Bacteria grows in water, not oil, so with no water in any of the products minimal preservatives are required – rosemary is the used in the rms range.

Jojoba oil is also used throughout the range which has a shelf life of 3 years and is closest to that found in the skin making it easily compatible.  Allergic reactions to the range are minimal to say the least.  The Vitamin E used is non GM unlike most other Vitamin E these days says Rose Marie, there really is no compromise on the calibre of ingredients used.  As none of them have been processed or tampered with, all of their qualities are intact making the range highly beneficial to skin as well as helping  it look good.

Rose-Marie explained why she didn’t have powder minerals in the range, she doesn’t like the effect that they can have on the skin, making it look older and drier.  Her creamy consistencies actually nourish and work with the skin helping to make it look radiant.  That said she is soon to launch a setting powder which she stresses is to be used very sparingly on areas like the t-zone.  It contains silica to absorb oil, but again there is no compromise on ingredients; the silica is of the upmost quality and is rounded beads as opposed to crystalline which can be likened to the texture of fibre glass – not nice for skin or lungs!

There are of course minerals in the range as there are some lovely colours.  They are again of the best quality, they blend effortlessly with the oils so the colour is smooth and seamless.  Cheap minerals will be evident by big particle size, no nanoparticles are used in the rms range though, something Rose-Marie does certainly not believe in.  Only one of the blushers called Smile contains a very small amount of synthetic colour, the rest are pure raw minerals – have you seen the Lip Shine in Sublime – amazing colour!

Not only is the ingredient listing sorted for us, so is the application technique. Rose-Marie has designed each product specifically for easy use.  Each cream eyeshadow has a blend of five colours so when applied to the lid it instantly creates a contoured look. NB. apply the shadow to a dry lid – no eyecream or anything. All of the products can be applied with your fingers and are really easy to blend.

The newest addition to the range is the rms beauty oil.  A combination of pure organic oils to nourish, rejuvenate and protect the skin.  There are no essential oils at all as Rose-Marie says these can actually age the skin over time and can effect the potency of herbs of which the beauty oil contains many.  Use the oil after cleansing at night and in the morning before make-up.  We were giving a little sample size to try and it was lovely, it is on my wish list for sure.  Saying that after listening to Rose-Marie (which I could do for hours, she is a wealth of knowledge) the whole of the range is on my wish list!  One of each for me and one of each for my kit…….

It really was a brilliant morning and I left feeling inspired and determined to carry on exploring and promoting cleaner beauty.  Thank you Rose-Marie.
